It was the whispers of my youth
that awakened me one morning
arriving as a lone traveler
to fellow pilgrims in huddled silence
I made my debut for the day
to the sounds of unwelcome company
coming to stay for a while
and the realization that all my secrets
were no longer secret anymore
and the great love of my youth a fiction,
the world my parents knew now coming
into being as I made my exit
from Eden and entered thornier realities
and the crushing epiphany that I was no longer a visitor
to this strange and foreign land
but a citizen.
