Jeff, this is beautiful. I love the idea of a break, a palate cleanser, a refresh. By midday today, I felt so fatigued, exhausted; like I just hadn't been able to recuperate from the week with one Friday nights' rest. So I took a midday shower. A longer one--not the kind you take when you're on a schedule or getting ready to go somewhere. I did a face mask, took the time to blow dry my hair. And then I did gua sha, an ancient form of Chinese medicine. And in the midst of the smoothing the tool over my skin, the glide made possible by the facial oil I was using; I felt myself relax. And I just really appreciated my face, the increasing sun spots, the crow's feet, the laugh lines. I almost cried b/c the relief was so sweet. We all need a deep breath or two and that's a bit what reading this piece of writing felt like for me. May we all be well.
I just got back from several months in Europe. While in Budapest my wife and I made a point of going to a few Michelin star restaurants. One meal had six courses and was much like what you described here. I intend to continue this “hobby”.
I love going on walks, and listening to trees talk (while the wind caresses/rustles their leaves); reading a book, even if just a page or for a few minutes; and simply being with family!
I meant to drop a comment on this the other day. I loved this post, Jeff. What a great concept and so very true. This one's gonna stay with me for a while.
Love this message Jeff and the fact there is no further explanation. I think we could free ourselves a lot by just saying “it’s a potato chip” if more is asked of us than we want to give. The simplicity of it is perfect. 🙏💫
Well said. Short interludes of calmer water between waves make the trip. Also (as a guy who notices), this was well written. Good on you.
Thanks, Dude! ;)

Good for you. Googling "gua sha" now. :)
So who are Kevin and Robin and Tom and nic?
Cat cuddles and my adorable dog. And my family and my friends. It’s all the same to me if it is to you guys too.
Now. In bed with Coffee. Chores patiently waiting. Cat cuddles.
I go to a concert or a play. Perfect cleansers.
Nice, Tom! I need to get back to the theater or an art museum. Those are definitely solaces for me, cathedrals of creativity.
One of the best refreshers is meditation. Also yoga, tai chi and and don't forget humor. W.C. Fields, Marx Brothers. Laugh out loud zaniness.
Palate cleansers are great. They work well on many fronts in life. (Not saying it was needed for your reads though!)
Thanks, Robin. :)
Just what I needed this morning. : )
Glad to hear. Your words have been medicine to me for years, so I am happy to return the favor.
