Writing Compelling Content for the Internet
Everybody on the Internet is talking about content, right? So does the undiscovered, unknown writer do to stand out? How do you create compelling content that deserves to be read — and actually get it in front of people?
Everybody on the Internet is talking about content, right?
So does the undiscovered, unknown writer do to stand out?
How do you create compelling content that deserves to be read — and actually get it in front of people?
Content is king (or is it?)
I just read an interesting lens on Squidoo about using web content to get more web traffic to your site.
In the lens, the author makes a powerful statement: "EVERYTHING on the Internet is CONTENT."
Exactly.
Everything you create or encounter on the web is content, in one form or another.
So, to say that "content is king" or any other cliche you hear marketers rattle off (I'm guilty of this myself) is pure malarkey.
It's all content.
What this means for writers
If you're going to try to market something online, then you're going to need content.
If you have a message that you want others to be moved by, then you need to recognize your need for information.
Beyond that, you need to understand that anything you say is content.
We are all marketers, whether we realize it or not. Every time we open our mouths, send an email, or have a phone conversation, we are marketing.
Marketing is inevitable. You have no choice.
What is a choice is quality.
The takeaway
This is an interesting thought for any of us interested in making a difference, for those who want to leave an impact on others.
Anything I say on my blog, Facebook, or Twitter is all content.
And it's my choice what I do with it.
Will it be compelling?
Or will it just be adding to the noise?
It's all information, and it's all saying something.
The question is: Am I taking the time to consider what kind of content I put out there?
Are you?
